Climate Sensitivity Increases Under Higher CO 2 Levels Due to Feedback Temperature Dependence

چکیده

Equilibrium climate sensitivity-the equilibrium warming per CO2 doubling-increases with concentration for 13 of 14 coupled general circulation models 0.5–8 times the preindustrial concentration. In particular, abrupt 4 × is more than twice 2 warming. We identify three potential causes: nonlogarithmic forcing, feedback dependence, and temperature dependence. Feedback dependence explains at least half sensitivity increase, while a smaller share, forcing decreases in as many it increases it. positive 10 out models, primarily due to longwave clear-sky feedback, cloud feedbacks drive particularly large increases. risk extreme or runaway warming, estimated cause six warm an additional 3K under 8 CO2.

Reduction of Climate Sensitivity to Solar Forcing due to Stratospheric Ozone Feedback

An accurate assessment of the role of solar variability is a key step toward a proper quantification of natural and anthropogenic climate change. To this end, climate models have been extensively used to quantify the solar contribution to climate variability. However, owing to the large computational cost, the bulk of modeling studies to date have been performed without interactive stratospheri...

Aerosol climate feedback due to decadal increases in Southern Hemisphere wind speeds

[1] Observations indicate that the westerly jet in the Southern Hemisphere troposphere is accelerating. Using a global aerosol model we estimate that the increase in wind speed of 0.45 ± 0.2 m s decade 1 at 50–65 S since the early 1980s caused a higher sea spray flux, resulting in an increase of cloud condensation nucleus concentrations of more than 85% in some regions, and of 22% on average be...

: examining l2 teachers’ corrective feedback types in relation to learners’ uptake, proficiency levels, and context types

abstract this study investigates the teachers’ correction of students’ spoken errors of linguistic forms in efl classes, aiming at (a) examining the relationship between the learners’ proficiency level and the provision of corrective feedback types, (b) exploring the extent to which teachers’ use of different corrective feedback types is related to the immediate types of context in which err...

Effect of the temperature dependence of gas absorption in climate feedback

[1] In the context of climate feedback associated with temperature change, there exist two potential mechanisms that affect the outgoing longwave radiation (OLR) and the downward longwave radiation (DLR). One is the ‘‘Planck’’ effect that determines the blackbody thermal emission at a considered temperature. The other is the ‘‘absorptivity’’ effect, in which a temperature change causes a change...

Properties of Higher Criticism under Strong Dependence

The problem of signal detection using sparse, faint information is closely related to a variety of contemporary statistical problems, including the control of false-discovery rate, and classification using very high-dimensional data. Each problem can be solved by conducting a large number of simultaneous hypothesis tests, the properties of which are readily accessed under the assumption of inde...
